Luigi Malferrari appointed honorary professor at Saarland University

Luigi Malferrari, who has worked in the European Commission's Legal Service for many years, has been appointed honorary professor of European law by Saarland University. The certificate was presented by Prof. Dr. Ludger Santen, President of Saarland University, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Annette Guckelberger, and the two directors of the European Institute, Prof. Dr. Thomas Giegerich and Prof. Dr. Marc Bungenberg.

Luigi Malferrari is an expert in European law, media freedom, public procurement, and fundamental rights. He earned his law degree from the University of Bologna, completed an LL.M. at Harvard Law School, and received his doctorate from the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg. Before joining the European Commission, he worked as a lawyer at Lovells and as a référendaire at the European Court of Justice, among other positions.

At the Europa-Institut, Malferrari teaches the course “Digital Internal Market” as part of the master's program and also contributes his knowledge in seminars, lectures, and summer schools. For the past two years, he has been offering high-caliber workshops on media and digital law, such as “Practical insights into the work of practitioners at the example of spyware.” He is also a lecturer at other renowned institutes and a member of the advisory board of the European Journal of Business Law.
