Conference on economic security in Berlin

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and the Federal Foreign Office, together with Prof. Dr. Till Patrik Holterhus and Prof. Dr. Lisandra Flach (ifo Institute for Economic Research), hosted a scientific conference in Berlin on February 5, 2026.

„Economic Security: European Self-Assertion in Times of Geo-Economic Rivalry“

in the Europasaal of the Federal Foreign Office, Berlin

Against the backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions and a changing international economic order, the conference discussed the conditions, mechanisms, and political options for successful German and European economic security from a legal, economic, and political science perspective. The focus was on questions of strengthening economic resilience, securing technological sovereignty, and Europe's strategic capacity to act.
