Invitation to Prof. Dr. Thomas Giegerich’s Farewell Conference – 12-13 March 2026

We are pleased to invite you to the farewell conference of Prof. Dr. Thomas Giegerich, which will take place on 12 & 13 March 2026 at the Europa-Institut, Saarland University, Saarbrücken, Germany. The conference is entitled “Sexual and Gender Minorities in International Law and European Union Law: Thomas Giegerich’s Farewell Conference”.

You can look forward to a diverse program featuring international experts who will address current issues concerning the rights of sexual and gender minorities in international and European law. Topics include:

• Global perspectives: Hard and soft norms protecting sexual and gender identities

• Individual rights: Free movement and privacy

• EU values of dignity and equality under Article 2 TEU

• Special focus on international sports and the U.S. perspective

Prof. Dr. Thomas Giegerich will open the conference with an introduction on “Sexual and Gender Identity, Human Dignity and Binary-Cisgender Backlash.”
