1. Saarland Steel Talks – Conference on the future of the European steel industry

February 25–26, 2026, at the Saarland Ministry of Economics, Innovation, Digital Affairs, and Energy

Prof. Dr. Marc Bungenberg (Europa-Institut, Saarland University) hosted a two-day conference entitled “From the European Coal and Steel Community to Transformation – Challenges for the Steel Industry” in Saarbrücken on February 25 and 26, 2026. The event took place at the Saarland Ministry of Economics, Innovation, Digital Affairs, and Energy.

The focus was on key issues for the future of the European steel sector – from geopolitical raw material dependencies, energy prices, and competitiveness to hydrogen technologies, climate-neutral production processes, and trade policy frameworks.
