Summer Schools at the Europa-Institut

The Europa-Institut offers winter and spring schools as well as summer courses, which deal with the topic of "European Integration" from the perspective of different disciplines.

Within the framework of these international schools, students receive comprehensive insights into the legal, political and economic fundamentals of the system of the European Union and have the opportunity to form international networks.

Additionally, Saarbrücken is the ideal starting point to visit sites of European importance like Brussels, Luxembourg or Strasbourg.

Since  2011, the Europa-Institut in cooperation with the ASKO Europa-Stiftung and the European Academy of Otzenhausen has organized an annual European Summer Course in  which  international  students  from  all  over  the  world come together to learn about various aspects of European Integration. Participants discuss the political, economic and cultural dimensions of the EU with renowned lecturers and experts, deepen their knowledge about the European Union in international research groups and broaden their intercultural understanding. Visits to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg and to the European Parliament and the European Commission in Brussels offer an in-depth look into the functioning of the most important European and international institutions and organisations.

EUROPEAN SUMMER COURSE 2017

Since the beginning of 2015, the Europa-Institut has offered Winter Schools for young academics from Eastern partnership countries (especially from Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine) who would like to exchange their views on past and current developments in Eastern Europe. The program enables participants to discuss democracy, the rule of law as well as human rights protection in Europe. With the growing importance of harmonization efforts, the basics of European law are taught as well.

In 2016, twenty participants from Germany and the Ukraine met at the Europa-Institut from 5 to 13 June for the Spring School "Human Rights as a Key for Democracy".

The schools are financially supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Federal Foreign Office within the context of the program "Expansion of the Cooperation in Civil  Societies  in  Countries  of  the Eastern Partnership and Russia".
